These resources, designed with the EYFS and KS1 curricula in mind, boost children’s literacy and knowledge of the world around them, with an engaging theme of Caribbean wildlife. The word search asks children to find and mark off 10 animals found in the Caribbean region including the pelican, flamingo and hummingbird. Each animal name is hidden within the grid, ensuring a challenging activity that will enhance spelling and vocabulary. For peer-assessment and self-checking, an answer sheet is provided. The included work sheets are differentiated to meet the varying abilities and learning styles of the children in your class. 1 Trace and Colour: Children can trace the words of 8 different Caribbean animals, improving their handwriting skills. They can also colour in the corresponding pictures of the animals. 2 Write and Colour: This worksheet requires children to write the names of the animals independently. This helps to reinforce their spelling and handwriting skills. The colouring task remains, making the sheet a fun activity. 3 Draw and Trace: This worksheet encourages children to draw the animals, encouraging attention to detail. They can also trace the words of the animals, reinforcing handwriting skills.

Nature Treasure Hunt with Rhyming Clues

A fun and engaging activity for young children, whilst assessing their progress and knowledge and challenging them at the same time. It is linked to phonics, nature, observation and problem solving skills. This ‘Treasure Hunt’ has 10 nature-themed colour picture cards that can be hidden in your school’s garden, the playground, classroom or even at home for remote learning. Each picture is associated with a letter of the alphabet and these are also provided on colour cards. Sheet 1 provides simple rhymes that gives children clues into the location of the picture cards. To challenge the children even more and also adding a bit of a twist, the letter cards aren’t always the initial sounds of the pictures, thus, the letter ‘O’ might lead children to a snail! Sheet 2 can be used for children to mark off when they find the picture cards and / or children can use this black and white sheet to label and colour in pictures. There are 2 colour cards to each page which can be enlarged / laminated, if needed. The resource uses symbols and is suitable of EYFS, KS1 and SEND pupils. Boardmaker licenced.
